Qualifying learners can monitor the application of quality assurance procedures in their area of responsibility to maintain the quality system, and develop and adapt quality procedures to address quality problems and/or meet changing requirements. They are able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the quality assurance process and the requirements for maintaining the discipline of the quality system.

This unit standard is intended for a person who works in a manufacturing or engineering environment who needs to monitor and control the quality of manufacturing/engineering practices during manufacturing/engineering processes and resolve non-conformances to quality in the final products.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:

• demonstrate an understanding of quality assurance practices in a manufacturing/engineering environment,
• integrate quality assurance practices into a manufacturing/engineering production line,
• monitor the quality during manufacturing/engineering processes,
• resolve non-conformance to quality in manufactured/engineered products.

This unit will contribute to the full development, further mobility and transportability for the learner within the field of manufacturing. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and progression within the manufacturing context.

Qualifying learners can select, safely use and care for a range of engineering hand tools used for checking, forming, cutting, marking and fastening tools and tooling aids.

Qualifying learners can select, safely use and care for a range of engineering power tools. The power sources include electrical, pneumatic and hydraulics.
